Mr. Moeen Qureshi,
Chairman, Emerging Markets Partnership,
2001 Pennsylvania Avenue, N. W., Suite 1100,
Washington, DC 20006.

Dear Mr. Qureshi,

Assalamo-Alaikum. May the blessings of Allah be always with you and your family. Ameen. First of all, belatedly I am grateful to you for your nice letter dated August 4, 1997. It lifted my spirits and will always be a source of encouragement for my one-man mission for Muslim Unity. Thanks.

My plans to visit Malaysia and meet Dr. Mahathir had to be postponed due to the Asian financial crisis triggered in July 1997 by Thailand's currency collapse. The crisis has dramatically changed the landscape of Asia. The two Muslim countries, Indonesia and Malaysia, have suffered the most. The thing that concerns and pains me is the plight of the low-income and poor people, particularly those who live in Indonesia and those Indonesians who were working in Malaysia. The rich can survive if they lose a million or even a billion because they can recover it fast, but the poor have no recourse. I hope that Asia's corrupt politicians and bankers and the greedy foreign bankers will learn a lesson from the tragedy and will reform the financial institutions to make them more open and transparent so that everyone knows what is going on. People's memory is very short and they hardly learn from history, so God has to teach them in many different ways. Sometimes He shakes them so that people will think - at times violently. The 'Asian shake' was one of those times. Only time will tell if Asians have learned anything from the crisis or they will go back to their old  ways.

Mr. Qureshi, in your letter you had asked me to keep you informed of my work and activities. So, I am sending you a package containing letters that will give you an overall view of my activities since the start. I don't want to burden you with all the letters that I write, and I write many, so I have made a small selection for your consideration. I will appreciate if you will spare some time to read the letters because I need your guidance, advice and constructive comments when we meet.

I am planning to attend the American Muslim Council's (AMC) Annual Convention to be held in Washington from June 25th to June 28th. I will arrive in Washington on Wednesday June 24th noon and plan to be there till June 28th noon. I will stay at the AMC Convention hotel - Hilton Washington Airport Hotel, Crystal City, Virginia ( Tel: 703 - 418 - 3763). I will be grateful if you could honor me by having a dinner with me at the Hilton on Wednesday June 24, 1998. If you cannot make it on 24th, then please let me know when I can see you for an hour or so - may be at breakfast on Sunday June 28th? At this time, I don't have the Convention program with me so I will leave it up to your convenience to select the date and time of our meeting. It is very critical for me to talk to you face to face because I want to discuss some important ideas with you. If you need to call me, my home number in Dallas is (972)380-5106.

Thanks and warm regards.

M. Khaliq Qureshi,
1317 Shamrock Lane,
Plano, Texas 75093.
