Dear Muslim leaders,

May Allah bless you with health, wealth, happiness, true faith and the love of fellow-men. The enclosed copy of the full-page ad - titled "Christians call for a united Jerusalem"  that appeared in the New York Times dated April 18, 1997- was sponsored by the top Christian spiritual leaders of America. The Christian leaders proclaim that "the battle for Jerusalem has begun," and they are asking their followers to support the action of the US Congress to accept Jerusalem as the united capital of Israel. In view of this situation, I believe the time has come for every Muslim to stand up for the Arab East Jerusalem and support our Palestinian brothers and sisters who are alone to defend the future capital of their state of Palestine. In particular, I appeal to the respected religious leaders of our north American Muslim community to take the lead in the defense of our holy shrines in East Jerusalem, just like the Christian leaders. Enclosed is a copy of a letter titled "Future of Arab East Jerusalem" that has been sent for publication in the following Newspapers:
Dallas Morning News; New York Times; Washington Post; Chicago Tribune; Los Angeles Times; San Francisco Examiner; Denver Post; Time; Newsweek; Wall Street Journal; U.S. News & World Report; Calgary Herald, Jakarta Post, Indonesia; New Straits Times, Malaysia; Dawn, Pakistan; Arab Times, Kuwait; Financial Times, U.K; and Pakistan Link.

In addition, I am sending appeal letters to the heads of the newly formed "Development Eight (D-8) Group" and also to the heads of other Muslim countries, requesting them to help the cause of Arab East Jerusalem and take concrete steps at the next OIC meeting.

The troublesome issues concerning Jerusalem are heading to a flash point, and a single act of a fanatic, such as a bomb blast under the Al-Aqsa mosque, can trigger a sequence of events that can escalate into a disastrous conflagration. Who would have thought before June 28, 1914, that two shots from the pistol of a single Serbian terrorist will signal the start of  World War I? Yet that is what happened in Sarajevo. It is time for the Muslim world to wake up, get united and speak with ONE VOICE to defend our part of the  Jerusalem. Seize the opportunity. Act now. Don't wait for others to change things for you.
