President Soeharto of Indonesia

Indonesia is a country in Southeast Asia that consists of 13,667 islands. It is the largest Muslim country and the fourth most populous nation (about 200 million) in the world. Indonesia is very rich in natural resources, including the largest tropical rain forest in Asia, a major producer of gas and oil (OPEC member), rubber, tin, coffee, tea, spices, etc.

President Soeharto was one of the leaders, along with President Sukarno, vice president Hatta and others, who fought against the Dutch and Japanese and created the independent nation of Indonesia on August 17,1945. President Soeharto came to national and international prominence in 1965, when the Communist Party (PKI ) attempted a coup to snatch power in Indonesia by brutally murdering six Generals and some other officials. General Soeharto was thrust into this tragic situation by God Almighty to save the Muslim nation from the clutches of Communism. The manner in which he conducted himself during the 1965 tragedy is so remarkable that only a very keen eye would have noticed the brilliance of this wonderful General, a young man of quiet dignity. He immediately took charge and put in action a strategy that would cause minimum loss of life. The situation was brought under control by persuasion and with no violence. After securing most key positions in the capital, General Soeharto offered to turn the command over to General Nasution, the most senior officer available at the time, but he declined the offer as he was extremely impressed by General Soeharto's control of the situation. Realizing that the Communists are the cancer of the body, General Soeharto dealt with them very firmly so that they can never raise their head again in Indonesia. The army, and student groups (Generation of 66), particularly those from Bandung University, fully supported the General during this critical period. From that point onward, the General gradually and gracefully started to build his nation in such a manner that has stunned many, including his critics and even Mr. Lee Kuan Yew, one of the most wise and brilliant leader in Southeast Asia. First of all, the General treated his leader, President Sukarno, very gracefully and let him peacefully pass his last days with dignity as the President. Then he ended "crush Malaysia" policy, and brought Indonesia back into the United Nations. After becoming President of his nation, he focused most of his energies on the economic development and created a stable, modem and prosperous Indonesia based on social justice. President Soeharto's economic policies have brought Indonesia to the rank of thirteenth among the world economies, just behind Canada. In 1992, the President successfully organized -the Non-aligned Movement summit in Jakarta, and was elected its Chairman. in 1994, he hosted the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Summit at Bogor, a success. For the last thirty years, President Soeharto has guided the destiny of his nation in a peaceful fair and dignified manner, and all people have benefited from the progress. One of his brilliant accomplishment has been to keep his multi-linguistic people living in 13,667 islands firmly UNITED. The President has shown his qualifies as a remarkable leader and a world statesman. Indeed, he is a genius. He is well liked and respected by all the world leaders. THIS IS THE REAL LEADER WHO CAN UNITE THE MUSLIM NATIONS INTO A UNITED FORCE TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE AT THE UNITED NATIONS.
