President Soeharto designates a Staff Member PDF Print E-mail

July 16, 1995
His Excellency, Bapak Soeharto,
President of the Republic of Indonesia,
Jl. Cendana No. 8,
Jakarta, Indonesia.

Dear Mr. President,

Assalamo-Alaikum. I hope that this letter will find you in the best of health. May the blessings of God be always with you, your family and your beloved country, Indonesia.

After spending the most interesting one month of my life in Indonesia, concerning the ONE-MAN MISSION to unite Muslim Community, I returned to Dallas on May 20, 1995. Since that time, I have been busy in the celebrations of my youngest daughter's graduation from University of Austin, and moving her to Houston where she started her first job. Now that all of my three children have been educated and are happily busy in their own jobs, I am now free to devote full time to the subject MISSION.

Before embarking on the project, I would like to put on record my very sincere thanks to you, Mr. President, for providing me an opportunity to meet your people. I had a good meeting with Mr.Tony Hartono who was very gracious, generous and cooperative. I provided all the information that Mr. Hartono needed concerning my life and my family in order to put him at ease. I explained to Mr. Hartono that the concept of my MISSION is entirely and purely my own idea, and it evolved essentially by the impact of human tragedies in Bosnia and Chechnya. Nobody has asked me to do it and I am not working for anybody. Although a lot of people are doing whatever they can to reduce sufferings of Muslims but nobody is looking for a long lasting solution for the problems facing the Muslim community. During my trip to Jakarta, I had an opportunity to meet and discuss my MISSION with Dr. Ibnu Sutowo. He listened carefully and then said, " Mr. Qureshi, your dream will remain a dream because you cannot change human nature". Few believe that it can be done but I am confident that where there is a will, there is a way. The human nature may not be changed but we can change people's attitudes. I agreed with Mr. Hartono that all of my activities on the MISSION will be channeled through Mr. Hartono and he will then forward all the letters and the correspondence to President Soeharto. I will be glad to follow this scheme because it will eliminate misunderstandings.

I am starting my first activity of the MISSION (with Bismillah) in Houston where I am going to attend the three day conference of the Association of Pakistani Scientists and Engineers of North America. I am one of the panelists in the Conference. I have prepared my letters for distribution to majority of the participants, and I expect a good reception. A copy of the package (letters) is attached for your Excellency. Bapak Soeharto, this will be the only letter I have decided to send you directly, but all future correspondence will be channeled through Mr. Hartono.

Yours very truly,

Mr. M. Khaliq Qureshi,
1317 Shamrock Lane,
Plano, Texas 75093, U. S. A.
