Letter to Dr. Abdul Wahab, V-C of Karachi University PDF Print E-mail
October 22, 1999

The Honorable Professor Dr. Abdul Wahab,
Vice Chancellor of Karachi University,
Karachi, Pakistan.

Dear Dr. Abdul Wahab,

Assalamo-Alaikum. May Allah's blessings be always with you, your family and Karachi University. Amen.

It is a great honor for me to write my first letter to the vice-chancellor of Karachi University. I joined Karachi University in 1954 in the first batch of the B. Sc. Honors class. Dr. Pithawalla was the head of the department and Dr. Mehbob-e-Khuda and Mr. Walliullah were our two teachers. I had a very good relationship with the late Professor A. B. A. Haleem, the vice-chancellor of the University. At the time the University was located at the Ranchore Lines. The 1954 through 1957 was the turbulent period in the Geology department with some interesting stories, and I will share those with you when we meet in Karachi in the first or second week of November 1999. I would appreciate if the University will provide me an opportunity to address the Faculty members and top students of the university at a meeting in the campus. The basic theme of my short speech will be to motivate and encourage the younger generation not to lose heart, work hard and have faith in their future. I am sure things will improve sooner than they think. I am not a rich man but I have made a commitment to myself that I will use my own little resources to focus my remaining life on one idea which is to find a leader who will lead Muslims to Unity. Let me briefly explain:
Your Honor, in every man's life there comes a time when certain events trigger something in his heart - a spiritual experience - that transform his life. I don't know about you but for me, it was the events of Bosnian tragedy and the bravery of Chechens that created a storm in my heart that induced me to launch in early 1995 my ONE-MAN MISSION for MUSLIM UNITY. In the last five years, I have visited Indonesia and Malaysia and have appealed to President Soeharto and Dr. Mahathir Mohamad to accept the leadership of the Muslim world but they will neither say yes nor no to my appeals or the appeals of thousands of Muslims of north America. Also, I have traveled to many cities in U.S.A. and Canada, in connection with the Unity Mission, and have met top Muslim scientists, Doctors, Professionals, Religious leaders and intellectuals. There is a general feeling among these north American Muslims that our people will continue to suffer all over the world unless we are United and there is a Muslim leader or a group of Muslim leaders who are willing to commit themselves to guide the DESTINY of the Muslim world, either through the resources of the Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC) or through the United Nations.

I enclose for your information and reading pleasure a few selected copies of the appeal letters concerning my ONE-MAN mission for Muslim Unity and related activities for other Muslim causes. I have completed my work with the leaders of Indonesia, Malaysia and Brunei, and now I want to move on to the next phase, that is , to approach the Muslim leaders of Pakistan and Middle East with the same purpose to appeal them to lead the Muslim world to Unity. Pakistan is my first stop because as a student I was involved in its Independence Movement, and as such I have a special right to speak to Pakistan's current and future leaders. I plan to be in Karachi on November 10, 1999 and would contact your secretary to seek an appointment with you to discuss the subject matter. I hope you will approve my request to speak to the leaders of my Alma Mater. Please note that I do not belong to any political party or group. I am just an ordinary person trying to do an extra-ordinary thing. Thanks and warm regards.
