Letter to Gen. Musharraf PDF Print E-mail

October 20, 1999

His Excellency, General Pervez Musharraf,
Chief Executive - Islamic Republic of Pakistan,
Islamabad, Pakistan.

Dear General Musharraf,
Assalamo-Alaikurn. May Allah's blessings be always with you, your family and Pakistan. Ameen.

It is a great honor for me to write my first letter to a Pakistani General for whom I knew very little before the events of October I 1/ 12, 1999. However, since that time I have learned a great deal about you mostly through the international news media. The more I learn. about you the more excited I become with the hope that may be now we have a real and an honest leader who has the potential to do enormous good to Pakistan and its future. I am happy to report that the Dallas Fort Worth Muslim Community believes that you have handled the crisis situation in Pakistan with exceptional brilliance. Your decisions were quick, crisp and most effective. The nation should be grateful to you for your prompt action which resulted in no loss of fife. Please have faith and pay no heed to actions of the CMAG. Allama lqbal said:

Your Excellency, in every man's life there comes a time when certain events trigger something in his heart a spiritual experience - that transform his life. I don't know about you but for me, it was the events of Bosnian tragedy and the bravery of Chechens that created a storm in my heart that induced me to launch in early 1995 my ONE-MAN MISSION for MUSLIM UNITY. In the last five years, I have visited Indonesia and Malaysia and have appealed to President Soeharto and Dr. Mahathir Mohamad to accept the leadership of the Muslim world but they will neither say yes nor no to my appeals or the appeals of thousands of Muslims of north America. Also, I have traveled to many cities in U.S.A. and Canada, in connection with the Unity Mission, and have met top Muslim scientists, Doctors, Professionals, Religious leaders and intellectuals. There is a general feeling among these north American Muslims that our people will continue to suffer all over the world unless we are United and there is a Muslim leader or a group of Muslim leaders who are willing to commit themselves to guide the DESTINY of the Muslim world, either through the resources of the Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC) or through the United Nations.

Over the last several years I have kept the Pakistan's Ambassador to the United States informed about my activities concerning my ONE-MAN MISSION for MUSLIM UNITY, through the copies of my appeal letters sent to the leaders of the Muslim world. You may not have access to those letters, so I am delighted to provide you for your consideration a selected set of the appeal letters that will give you a glimpse of my commitment to the cause of Muslim Unity. Now that I have completed my plans to work with the three top leaders of Indonesia, Malaysia and Brunei, I want to move on to the next phase, that is , to approach the Muslim leaders of Pakistan and Middle East with the same purpose and appeal to take up the leadership of the Muslim world. Pakistan is my next stop because I was a member of the Muslim National Guard during its Independence Movement, and as such I have a birth right to first meet Pakistan's Chief Executive. I plan to be in Pakistan during the second half of November 1999 and would contact your secretary to seek an appointment with you in Islamabad to personally discuss the matters of Muslim Unity and your leadership role in it. I hope you will spare an hour or so for me from your busy schedule for the meeting. Good luck for your new challenge for a positive change in Pakistan. Thanks and warm regards.
