A TRIP THAT CAN END THE CYCLE OF
VIOLENCE IN MIDDLE EAST

Dear Madam Secretary,

May the blessings of God Almighty be always with you, your family and the United States.

In spite of  the recent suicide attack in Jerusalem, President Clinton has correctly decided  to let you proceed with your first historic trip to the Middle East. I hope your conscience or heart be the guide because ' it is with the heart that one sees rightly, what is essential is invisible to the eye.' You are a person who has the guts to speak honesty and bluntly to the world leaders on issues of major human concern, so I will speak with you in the same way.

Your family and Palestinians have something in common. Both have suffered persecution, one by the Nazis and the other by the Israelis. One hopes that none of us is put in a similar situation as your family or the Palestinians. Your family's sufferings ended long time ago but the scars remain, but Palestinians continue to suffer in Israel, in the occupied areas and in the refugee camps. Israelis have all the cards - they have the powerful military laced with nuclear weapons that can destroy all the Middle East; they have the money; they have occupied lands and they have the unlimited support of the USA. Palestinians are powerless and they have only humiliations and sufferings. Is it fair to treat both as equals?

The Middle East history tells us that before the early '40s' when illegal immigration of Jews from Europe commenced due to the Nazi persecution, the Jewish community in Palestine was about 60,000 or 17 % ( 83% being Arabs.) In 1947, when the United Nations adopted the partitioning  plan, the Jews in Palestine owned only 5.6 percent of Palestinian territory and Palestinians owned 92 percent; but the plan allocated 54 percent of Palestine to Jews and the rest to Arabs, a very unfair deal. As a result of the 1948 war, Israel grabbed 76 percent of the land and the Palestinians became refugees (in Diaspora.) In the six-day war of 1967, the Israelis occupied all mandatory Palestine (Gaza strip and West Bank, including Jerusalem), and also Golan Heights and Sinai. Since that time, all the Palestinian land has been under Israeli occupation. Is it fair that the Europeans commit the crime against Jews and Palestinian have to pay for it? And how come that the Jews who suffered so much in Europe will resort to persecution of the Palestinians. The worst tragedy is that the Americans, who have noble values, have been trapped by the Jewish lobby to such an extent that the Congress, the Christian leaders and the vice-president want to nourish Israeli's lust to hang on to the Palestinian land forever, particularly East Jerusalem. Only President Clinton and the First Lady want to treat Palestinians fairly. In spite of your comments to Ben-Elissar about Mr. Arafat, I hope that you will support the President's viewpoint on the poor Palestinians. Israel's security will come only when the Palestinians have their security. What Israel needs is a sensible leader who is trustworthy and doesn't humiliate Palestinians, the peace-partners. Palestinians are not asking for any favors from anyone, they only want Justice and Fairness for them. Can you help them to get their land back? A solution is given in the following letters published in a newspaper :
