Letter to Tan Seri Razali, President of UN General Assembly PDF Print E-mail
October 12, 1996

His Excellency, Tan Seri Razali Ismail,
President of the United Nations General Assembly,
Room C - 204, United Nations,
New York, NY 10017.

Your Excellency,

Assalamo-Alaikum. May the blessings of God be always with you and your family.

Your Excellency, I am writing this letter just to express my delight on the news that you will be the President of the United Nations General Assembly for the current session. In your opening speech, as the president of 51st session of the General Assembly, you rightly criticized the United Nations for its inability to respond adequately to the International crises. The Secretary General, Boutros Boutros-Ghali, has not provided the leadership that is required to guide the destiny of such a noble organization. For example, it was his moral responsibility and duty to convince the Western leaders to stop the genocide in Bosnia, but he failed. This shows incompetence, and as such he should not be considered for another term as the Secretary General. We need moral leaders like Dr. Seri Mahathir Mohamad or Mr. Lee Kuan Yew who have guts and honesty to speak the truth. You were right to suggest that 'business as usual' syndrome must go, and UN officials should not waste time and money on long lunches, and other useless activities.

I am a member of the Muslim community of North America (USA and Canada), since my first arrival in Canada in 1961, and I have lived in the Dallas area since 1983. I have also spent more than ten years of my professional life in South East Asia and had the distinct opportunity to watch with great delight the progress made by Malaysia under the dynamic leadership of Dr. Mahathir Mohamad. I am also impressed by the quality of leaders that Dr. Mahathir has selected to help him in guiding the destiny of his nation. These include your excellency, Dr. Anwar Ibrahim, etc. We should be rightly proud of the Malaysian leaders for the guiding role they are playing on the world scene to support and defend Muslim causes. I am sure your performance in your new position will be a great credit to Malaysia, the Muslim world and the United Nations. Good luck and may Allah bless you.

In the near future, I am going on a trip to South East Asia in connection with my one-man mission on Muslim Unity. Enclosed is a copy of  my appeal letters that will give you an idea and the scope of my mission. After my return from the trip to Malaysia and Indonesia, I will be in touch with you to seek your guidance and support. Warm regards.

Your sincerely,

Mr. M. Khaliq Qureshi,
